Spring School - An Introduction to Agile Development

This year the Spring School focuses on Agile development. We have been lucky to secure some very high profile speakers.

The spring school is now full.

This series of four lectures will be held on March 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd, and is hosted by the Bristol Institute of Technology at the University of the West of England. Topics to be covered are:

  • The Agile Manifesto
  • Scrum
  • DSDM
  • Test Driven Development
  • Extreme Programming, Pair Programming
  • Estimating, planning, monitoring and control
  • Pitfalls
  • The Theory of Constraints
  • Lean Production
  • How to transition to Agile
  • The future of Agile
  • Training for Agile

The series is Introduced by David Hicks. David is a Founder Member of the Agile Alliance and Managing Director of Agile services company RADTAC.

The second lecture is by David Deans on Development/Engineering Practices. Dave Deans provides Process Improvement consultancy, including the application of Agile practices to systems and software development.

The Development/Engineering Practices will be further developed by Giovanni Asproni. Of all Agile development processes for producing quality software Test Driven Development (TDD) is key.

To round off Allan Kelly will give us The Future of Agile. Allan is the author of "Changing Software Development: Learning to become Agile".

Charges for the series have been kept extremely low. For all four lectures the charge will be:

To book your place, you will need to log on to the BCS Secure area. If you are a BCS member but not registered for online access you will need to do this first. Non-Members please first register as a guest on the secure site. Then members should go to the event booking page or you can go direct to the Spring School event.

Note: these prices are designed to give a real incentive for non members to join the BCS

See the campus map. Lecture theatre 2B020 is in B block (marked B - the "coffee filter" shape in the north west quarter of the map) and parking is advised in CP2 or CP3.
